Ashoka Halwa is a very famous dessert in Thanjavur (especially in Thiruvaiyaru) and in rest of Tamil Nadu. This Halwa is also called Thiruvaiyaru Halwa. Ashoka Halwa recipes are universal dessert across India, it is generally made with ingredients like flour or with ripe fruits. It can also be made with cereals and lentils. This recipe is a south Indian version of mong dal Halwa with a ghee and sugar.
